I love kids. Before my daughter was born I used to drive a school bus for the Sonoma County School District. My day would start very early. I would crank up my ole bus and head out to pick up my kids before the sun ever rose. Sometimes the only thought that could get me stirring was my first cup of coffee, and, of course, knowing that within the hour I'd have happy bunch of little tykes to keep me company.
I was ecstatic when I found out my girlfriend was pregnant. Just knowing that I'd soon be a dad got me thinking about all the things I wanted to teach my kid, like how to toss a football or tie a proper knot. I was a little shaken when I found out we were having a girl. I didn't know how I was going to relate.
When Magdalena finally arrived (10 days late!!!) I knew all that fretting was for nothing. I looked into her little blue eyes and knew she'd be my everything. I had no problem giving up the school bus to be a stay-at-home dad. The time with her was really a gift.
I still had my really early mornings, but I also had chunks of free time when she was napping. At first I'd just nap a little too (being a dad is hard work!!!) and then later on I took to watching cooking shows. Before long I found myself in the kitchen trying out many of the different recipes I'd seen on TV.
Baking was what I liked best. It filled my every afternoon. As soon as Maggie was old enough to help I put her work. She loved mixing the best. Oh and the decorating part too. It wasn't long before I knew we had something special in the making.
When Maggie started school I was lost. All a sudden I had all time free time on my hands. Instead of returning to my school bus route, I dreamed up what has become the Holy Magdalena Cupcake Express. It is the marriage of my many loves into a perfectly sweet day job. I've found that the best things come from having everything you love in one place. That's how I would describe the spirit of our business and what we hope to share with our customers.
